ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A clean energy project kicked off Thursday in east Bakersfield that will convert up to 20 homes to all-electric appliances + train local workers on clean energy methods. The initiative supports sustainable improvements for the area.  The Bakersfield Californian
  • Golden mussels, an invasive species first spotted in 2024, have been found in San Joaquin Valley today, prompting water districts to plan control measures (as explained by Lois Henry with SJV Water) to protect waterways and native fish.  KVPR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bakersfield's Houchin Community Blood Bank saw a surge in donations following a major Highway 58 pileup on Tuesday morning — over 300 donors helped after winter storms disrupted collection. The bank is still seeking O-negative and O-positive donors to maintain its supply.  Bakersfield Now
