  • Over 3,500 South Bakersfield customers lost power early Tuesday in the Stone Meadows and Pumplin Center areas. PG&E crews are working to restore service + they estimate power will return by 6 a.m.  Bakersfield Now
  • At the Kern County Fair Monday night, board members reversed their decision and reinstated nearly $10,000 in prize money for FFA livestock winners after families raised concerns about drug testing procedures — claiming that samples may have been cross-contaminated. Families will receive their funds within the week.  23ABC News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A hay fire burned near Robinson Calf Ranch in south Bakersfield on Monday but posed no threat to nearby buildings — officials confirmed the blaze was confined to hay and that the cause remains under investigation.  Bakersfield Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wasco High School opened the Tiger Wellness Center to offer students mental health resources, food, clothing and hygiene supplies through a Kern Family Health Care grant. The school will host a Spread the Love donation drive on Valentine’s Day from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for local support.  23ABC News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction on the eastbound Highway 58 and northbound 99 connector continues as crews install steel beams; intermittent closures occurred on Wible Road on Jan. 26 and will occur on Jan. 29 and Jan. 30 (6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.), with the Ming Avenue ramp closing from Feb. 1 until May 1.  Bakersfield Now
  • City and county officials are trying to shut down an illegal swap meet at the Casa Loma Drive and Cottonwood Road intersection, but the gathering continues to operate despite repeated efforts.  The Bakersfield Californian
