ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in mountain communities (from Lebec to Lockwood Valley) are reporting a surge in mountain lion sightings as livestock and pets have been killed, prompting the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to urge submission of incident reports.  23ABC News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kern County Public Works said residents should plan for closing conditions as Hermosa Road from Highway 184 to Malaga Road closed Jan. 3 at 5 p.m. due to flooding and Western Minerals Road from Short Road to the Maricopa city limits closed Jan. 5 at 8:30 a.m., with reopening pending.  Bakersfield Now
  • Caltrans reopened the Tejon Pass rest areas in Kern County on Monday, Jan. 5 after closures beginning on Dec. 26 due to sediment and wastewater from a storm. The facilities are now safe for travelers.  Bakersfield Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kern Health Systems changed its review process for autism therapy—leaving families worried that delays in applied behavior analysis may affect their children's progress. Parents and advocates are urging state officials to review the process and restore timely care in Kern County.  23ABC News
