American Legion Post 26 hosted its annual New Year's Eve dinner Tuesday in Bakersfield, where veterans and families gathered to share dishes including grilled steak and king crab legs (30 volunteers helped prepare the venue).

A local farmer near McKittrick is challenging the state's plan to reclassify groundwater as unsafe for farming after evidence suggests industrial wastewater (from oil fields) is contaminating supplies, potentially affecting areas like Buttonwillow.
